MA Larceny of a License Plate Law
Larceny of a registration plate was one of the lesser know laws that passed with the Melanie’s law. The charge is governed by Massachusetts General Laws, chapter 266, section 139. The MA statute punishes a person who takes and carries away the registration plate attached to the vehicle of another car or is assigned by the MA registry to another car.

If you are convicted of larceny of a license plate in MA, you could face up to 2 ½ years in the house of corrections. Additionally, you may be required to pay a fine of not less than $500 and not more than $1,000.
