MA Courts with Jurisdiction over Abuse Prevention Orders

Massachusetts abuse prevention orders are governed by Mass General Laws chapter 209A.  The following courts have jurisdiction over abuse prevention orders.  The Massachusetts district courts and the Boston Municipal Court can grant abuse prevention orders.  The Massachusetts family and probate court can also grant abuse prevention orders.  Finally, the Massachusetts superior court can grant abuse prevention orders that don’t involve dating relationships. 

MA Abuse Prevention Orders can be issued for:

An abuse prevention order can be used to prevent a person from abusing the plaintiff, stay away from the plaintiff’s home and the plaintiff’s place of employment.  If there is substantial likelihood of immediate danger of abuse, the court can grant relief without the alleged abuser being present.
