If you do not want to bring your case to trial you can try to resolve your case through a plea bargain. Most Massachusetts criminal cases are resolved short of trial and by way of a plea bargain. In any plea bargain the prosecutor and your attorney can work out a disposition and offer it to the court. The judge will ultimately determine if the plea bargain will be accepted and if the case is resolved. If the judge rejects the plea bargain the case will continue to trial.
There are many rules regarding plea bargains and different plea deals that may be available. Each case is unique, but here are a few options that may be available in criminal cases. If your case isn't that serious you could be placed on pre-trial probation. You could also plead to a guilty file, continuance without a finding, be placed on probation or have a suspended sentence.
