MA Discretionary Suspension
The Massachusetts registry is allowed to use its discretion to suspend your license in three different scenarios.
- Improper Operation: the MA registry may suspend your license for up to 30 days for improper operation of a motor vehicle. The MA registry may suspend your license indefinitely for a medical or mental condition.
- Immediate Threat: the MA registry may suspend your license indefinitely if it has cause to believe that your operation may be a danger to the public.
- License Fraud: the MA registry may suspend your license for license fraud. This includes you altering a license, using the license of another, loaning your license to others, or distributing fake licenses. Your license could be suspended for 6 months. A favorable resolution to a criminal case in connection to a fake license does not preclude the MA registry from suspending your license.
